Telegram Setup
A shorter Telegram guide for people who want the fastest first remote-access path after Hermes already works locally.
Why start with Telegram
For most solo users, Telegram is the fastest path from a working local Hermes setup to a real remote-access workflow. It gives you mobile reach without forcing a team-server model on day one.
What you need before setup
- A Hermes install that already works locally
- A Telegram account
- A Bot Token created through BotFather
3-step setup flow
- Create a bot with BotFather and copy the Bot Token.
- Run
hermes gateway setupand choose Telegram. - Start the gateway and message the bot to confirm it is reachable.
First verification checklist
- The bot responds in Telegram, not just locally.
- You can tell whether your message reached Hermes or only the platform shell.
- If pairing is enabled in your flow, you complete that approval cleanly.
When to use Discord instead
If Hermes needs to live inside a shared server, role-based team workflow, or community support space, Discord is the better next read. If you only want the fastest one-to-one access path, Telegram usually wins.
